DIMLIGHT - "The Lost Chapters"

The-Lost-Chapters-Front-Cover

I know it’s been a while since the last news update but, believe it or not, I’ve been busy, busy, busy, despite the summer heat and the alluring call of nearby beaches. The results of all this business will be announced here as soon as they bear fruit suitably polished for your reading pleasure.

Besides, I don’t know if you’ve been following the international media reports, but my country, Greece, is in a rather tight spot at the present moment. Banks are closed by government order, the ATM machines give out only small “cash rations” per day, fearmongering and petty politics are rampant and the only thing that’s missing is a zombie outbreak or alien invasion to complete this little post-apocalyptic scenario we’ve got going here.

Not the best of times to be a full-time writer, granted, but then again Aeschylus, an ancient colleague of mine, lived through the first Persian invasion of Greece, fought at the battle of Marathon and then went straight back to writing at his desk – so I can’t really complain.

All that aside, July kicks off with a piece of great news: the Greek metal band Dimlight have recently released a new album, entitled “The Lost Chapters”, through UK label “Five Starr records”.

“The Lost Chapters” is a concept album – a novel put to music; and yours truly is, of course, behind the lyrics.

Even though labeling Dimlight’s music is something not easily done, one could say they play a female-fronted, melodic / symphonic death metal with a multitude of other elements interwoven into their highly technical music as well.

“The Lost Chapters” is an album addressed to the fans of the “harder side” of music. Still, it’s highly atmospheric, bombastic even, and delivers melody and aggression in a perfectly balanced mix.

The story narrated in this album is the origin story of the Egyptian goddess Hathor. Drawing inspiration from the oldest Egyptian myths, Hathor is portrayed not as a goddess of love, joy and fertility as most people today generally consider her, but as a bringer of bloodshed and vengeance upon mankind who strayed from the path of the gods into blasphemy. In truth, it’s an elaborate mythos of the horror / historical fantasy genre recounting the grim tale of Hathor’s birth and her rampage through the lands of pre-Pharaonic Egypt.

What’s more, a printed novella by yours truly, elaborating on the album’s concept, is also available for purchase for those of you who would like to delve into the story even deeper than the lyrics of the album allow.

It’s been a great pleasure working with the very talented and professional musicians of Dimlight. I look forward to our next project together, to bring you more historically-based dark stories.

Dimlight are:

Eva – vocals
